Dr. Avis Sneed, Assistant Pastor

Pastor Avis Sneed Avis Elizabeth Sneed is the only daughter to the late Deacon Fielding E. Taylor of Horsehead, Virginia and the late Deaconess Elizabeth J. Taylor of Lottsburg, Virginia.  Avis was a child who was destined to be “in ministry”.  As a child, she grew up in the New Psalmist Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Frederick C. Atkins. In 1974, she joined the Highway Church of Christ, Inc., which later became Beth-El Temple Church of Christ, Inc. under the leadership of the late Apostle Robert Evans Jr.

There at Beth-El, Dr. Sneed served in many capacities: as Lead vocalist with the Highway Delegation, the National Choir of the Highway Churches of Christ, and the recording choir, the Voices of Christ.  She also served as an Executive Board member, the National Sunday School Director for Beth-El Churches of Christ, Inc., and eventually as the National Director of Christian Education.

Pastor Sneed is a product of the Baltimore City Public School System graduating from Edmondson High School and later attending Morgan State University.  She later completed her Masters of Science degree in Christian Education and Doctorate in Theological Studies from the Logos Christian College and Graduate School, headquarters in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.  Having matriculated through the public school system, Dr. Sneed has also dedicated 32 years to that same system as a classroom teacher, tutor teacher, lead teacher, summer school teacher, consulting teacher, academic coach and now instructional support teacher.  Pastor Sneed also serves on the board of Site Coordinators for the Professional Development School Program in partnership with Morgan State University and Northwood Elementary School #242, which affords her the opportunity to mentor the future teachers of America.

While education has always been a part of her life, her greatest passion is empowering the people of God for work in the kingdom. As prophesied by her late Apostle Evans and confirmed by Bishop Chapman, Dr. Sneed has been given a place in the kingdom by God to minister and instruct bishops, pastors, and ministry gifts from all over this country.  One of her greatest desires is to see the men and women of God learn, grow and walk in their callings, doing the work of ministry, believing that she contributed to their development and progress.

In March 1999, Elder Avis E. Sneed recognized and listened to the call of God and joined Word Alive Christian Fellowship as a charter member and assisted in establishing the ministry as the Church Administrator.  On March 25, 2006, Elder Sneed was officially installed as Assistant Pastor of WACF among an aggregation of clergy, family and friends who have all been blessed by the life and witness of this mighty woman of God. Pastor Sneed also currently serves as the Academic Dean of the Interdenominational School of Biblical Truth (ISBT).

Pastor Sneed states that her great accomplishment in life and greatest contribution to life was the birth of her only daughter, Minister Lesley Janelle Neely and subsequent birth of her grandson, Cameron Jamar Neely.  The passion with which Pastor Sneed loves and serves her family, loves and serves her God can only be summed up with the recitation of her favorite portion of Scripture found in Psalm 145:2-3, “Every day I will bless Thee.  I will praise Thy name forever and ever; for great is the Lord and greatly to be praised; and His greatness is unsearchable.”  She lives to minister unto the Lord as He ministers unto to her…the result; she is able to minister to others!
